I need some suggestions on where and who to go with? A buddy of mine, and business partner, are planning a trip for our guys this summer. Maybe the end of June or beginning of July. None of us have much experience at the coast, if any at all. We would like to take a guide one day and fish jetties or surf the other.

I fished three or four times with the Reel McCoy in the Rockport / Port Aransas area and he was excellent. Not sure about rules for posting links, just google reelmccoyguideservice

Honestly, I'd stay away from Rockport because it gets way too much pressure and is over fished. I'd suggest going to Baffin or luguna madre area south of corpus...

Bait or artificials? Drifting or wading? Those will help you narrow down a guide.

I would love to use artificial baits but my friends have no experience so we better go live bait fishing on a boat.

Exactly what gjw said. They are a little pricey but well worth it.

As Rooster said, Ken Hauff in Matagorda runs a great operation at the Saltgrass lodge. He and his son (both are guides) are great to fish with and have been in the area fishing East and West bay their entire lives. Ton's of options in the matagorda area as well. Drifting East bay with artificials or live baits over the shell beds and mud flats, wading the south shore in both East and West, Gas rigs in West bay for Triple Tail in the summer...and of course the jetties at the mouth of the Colorado river (drive up from the beach) and diversion channel, as well as access to the Port O'Connor jetties by running across West bay.

Give him a ring, you wont be disappointed. Tell him Grant and the TTZ crew sent you and he may even stay up drinking whiskey and entertaining you guys in the evenings with his stories!

Thanks guys. I'll be making some phone calls asap. I have always liked Matagorda so that's where I'm leaning. But we'll see.

Chris Martin in Sea Drift has a sweet setup, one of the best "lodges" I have seen if you want to call it that. More like a fancy compound. He fishes the Port O'Conner and San Antonio bay system.
