With all the toads coming out of Austin, figure we make a singular post for everyone to drool at while they are stuck at work!

    Jan 29, 2012 – Brett Ketchum SAL 526 - 13.00 lbs

The 13.0-pound bass is the thirteenth ShareLunker to come from the urban lake.  Ketchum caught the fish on a jerkbait in 10 feet of 56-degree water while fishing in an Austin Bass Club of the Deaf tournament. He won big bass and placed second overall.

“She was a very good fighter,” Ketchum said.  “Once she jumped, I noticed she was big, but I kept fighting her, and when she got close and I saw her I thought, ‘Oh, it’s big!’ I was nervous because I saw only one treble hook in her, and I knew I could lose her in a second. But I stayed calm, let her fight until she was tired, then reeled her close to the boat.  My partner Sammy Oates, Jr., netted her beautifully.  He and my son Braden were shaking when I bought her in.”

Ketchum said he had always dreamed of catching a ShareLunker.  “My time has come,” he said. “It was an amazing day.”

    Feb 11, 2012 – Wes Hayden SAL 527 – 13.22 lbs

Wes and his buddies, Kevin Rock and Tyler Pack, put in at 9:30am at Quinlan.  They worked their way down river through the day and had caught about 5 or 6 fish; none were any size to speak of.  Water temp was roughly 56 degrees all day.

At just after 2, past 360 bridge they ran into some buddies in another boat coming the other direction.  All had stopped fishing for a bit to chat…except Wes.  After his 5th or 6th flip to the same overhanging tree with a jig and Pro's Choice E'gr Craw trailer combo, this behemoth crushed it.

Glass caught his 13.03-pound Toyota ShareLunker while fishing in 10 feet of 58-degree water with a Sixth Sense football jig.  A scan of the fish revealed it is the same fish caught February 27, 2010, by Carl Adkins of Austin, at which time it became Toyota ShareLunker 481.  At that time the fish weighed 13.1 pounds.  DNA testing at the time revealed the fish to be pure Florida largemouth.

    <div><strong>Landon's report:</strong></div>
    <div><strong></strong> </div>
Well I arrived at 360 a little after daylight yesterday with a heavy fog on the water. There were two boat trailers in the parking lot when I arrived. Decided to launch and fish around 360 until the fog lifted and I could run safely.

    <div> </div>

I dropped the trolling motor and headed across to the bluff and slowing worked my way up river. I was throwing a 6th Sense 5/8 jig with a eger craw trailer (remember this bait).  I made my way up to the lighthouse reeds without a bite and the fog was still heavy. I decided to check the closest creek while the fog was still heavy. Nothing in the creek and the fog was starting to lift so I decided to make a move up river. I made a run to some deeper docks where I have had good luck in the past and picked up my first keeper of the day 16"er. I ended up catching a few more dink's along this stretch and a 3lber.

Once again I made a move up river to another set of dock's. I fished around for maybe 15 minutes when I pitched my jig (6th Sense 5/8 jig) under a catwalk in 10 fow in the back of the dock. That's when I noticed my line slowly moving to the right. I set the hook and that's when I new I was about to land my first double digit. She came straight up and headed for the first piece of pipe she could find and wouldn't you know she went around it. I made a couple of figure eight's with the rod  and got her head turned and back around the pipe headed out. She made a run back down as I was grabbing the net so I reeled up on her and placed the net under her. It was at that point I realized she was so big she was going to fill my net. After one clean swoop of the net she was in my boat and in the livewell.

That's when it all hit me and I started making phone call's. I would like to add that the first five or so people I called didn't answer and I was needing to tell someone. It felt like forever while I paced back and forth saying who knows what when Andy called or answered not sure. I told him in a broken voice, "I have a Sharelunker." I said I am not sure how big but she looked like a 15 lber to me! Andy said Booker was already on his way to 360 for a quick trip to take some pics.

I was never real sure if I would turn a Sharelunker in if I caught one. I actually thought about it in bed the night before because I was headed to Austin the next morning.  I decided that there wasn't a snowball's chance in a hot place that I would catch one and I went to sleep. Little did I know that very thought would become a reality the next morning. After about 15 minutes of thinking I decided to make the call and have her picked up. I was really glad I did after the fact because I would have never known she was a recatch of Sharelunker #481. I was very pleased with the Sharelunker group and Dave Campbell for making the decision to have San Marcos send a truck to pick her up. This due to San Marcos being much closer than himself and the concern for her health. They made sure water temp and oxygen levels were very close before placing her in the tank.

Sharelunker #528 and former #481 will be returned to Lake Austin again next year, around this time for some other lucky angler to catch. I can't wait to hear there story next time!

Feb 15, 2012 - Bryce Miller and Kyle Jud - Austin 9 lb Toadfest

We started out past Quinlan fishing some grass, and caught a couple of dinks.  A couple of hours went by without a bite so we decided to head back to the bridge.  We made one last stop and fished some docks, glad we did.  She put up a pretty good fight I thought it was going to come off when she bumped the net on the first dip.  We did not have a scale so we headed to the bridge and Dale let us use his...caught on GB Megatail RattleSnake!

Well, it&#039;s no SAL, but this morning was off the chain.  It started on the second cast, and within 20 minutes, I had about 32lbs in the boat.  These three came within 10 minutes of each other and were almost identical in weight...all right at about 9lbs.

Skipping work was definitely worth it this morning!

What an incredible couple of weeks for LA.  Thanks for putting that all together, Andy.  I&#039;m going to have an incredibly difficult time focussing on school and work now this week.

Corey keeps the thread going with an 11.2 caught on Thursday, 3/1.  Corey said he lost her earlier in the day and came back to stick her 3 hours later…sounds like the big girls have started to lock down.
