Maybe some of y'all know, maybe some dont, but Choke Canyon is fishing great! 50+ fish days are common with a bunch of fish in the 3-6lb range and an occasional 8+. This has been going on for about 3 months now and some guys are down there today whacking the crap out of them again.
The hydrilla is making a come back, mostly on the west end of the lake. It's not matted but I hear it's healthy and fish are in it. Guys are catching fish all over the lake. Hardwoods, rock piles, ledges and points are all holding fish as well as the grass.

I was wondering.... I remember the good old days of waking up at some ungodly hour, driving down there to launch before dawn, fishing all day in the summer heat, getting some serious sunburn while ripping lips all day, and then driving home in the same day. Some of my tiredest moments (pre-children) were those evenings.

That's great to hear. I'm still hoping for a hurricane this year to fill up Amistad, Choke and Falcon. Get everything right before I return. A boy can dream.

Running the main lake isn't bad, stay away from the visible hardwoods and you should be fine. Haven't been to the west end, but fished some around Callaham --it sucked. Looked like a mudhole up that way when I was there. Looking toward the river is nuts, looks like a forest. Can't imagine trying to run up that way.

Lots of stuff sticking up in places it shouldn't be. Be careful gents.

I have been hearing similar stories. A lot of small fish with a few 4 pounders here and there. Damn work has had me booked so I havent been able to get the Skeeter wet in a couple of months or I'd be down there. Thanks for the update.

All this rain and the lake continues to drop. The ridiculous claims of a giant holes in the ground left from fracking north and west of Choke where all the rain water is going is picking up some steam.

Time will tell when it comes to the effects of fracking. I'm sure we'll learn how bad it is once it's too late.

Choke's watershed is kinda small right? Rain has to fall in pretty specific places

Just looked. Its actually a fairly decent sized area, but I don't think there has really been any flood events in these areas.
