Trying to get my boat running properly cannot get boat to lift those of you that have a similar boat can you tell me what prop your running and how many RPMs your turning and speed I am running a 25 Fury 5600 RPM 58 mph 225 Pro XS Mercury this is loaded with 2 fisherman and gear
I am thinking the Z8 I ran had a 225 w/Tempest 24. Ran into the low 60s and overall pretty good performance from that prop. A 25 fury might be a little steep for that rig based on your RPMs.
I fished out of that boat a couple times and I remember it getting out of the hole pretty good. It would also shoot one of the biggest rooster tails I've ever seen.
Haha, I honestly don't remember it throwing that big of a rooster tail but that is more a function of engine height and trim and little to do with prop as I understand it. I could be wrong, I am not a doctor. I have always heard a rig is set up right when the tail is about the same height as the cowling. Anyway, lift was fine. The more I think about it I would experiment with raising your motor up a 1/2 inch or so and seeing if that gets your RPMs up. Also, there is a Nitro board on Bass Boat Central where you can find what numbers folks are running, height above pad, etc.
Thanks for the info I am working with Josh at Steve's Props out of Quitman Texas he built me a 26" Tempest @ 3.5" below pad I am running 64.7 gps fully loaded 6000rpm am going to drop 1/4 " and see what that does before I return prop for a little more tunning
Finally think I got it set up for any one else that may have the same rig 25 Tempest 4" below pad, Blue printed and balanced Steves Props 5850 RPM 66.7 MPH by myself Loaded, 64.6 MPH with 2 people loaded 5800 RPM
That sounds about right. You went from 58 to 64...very solid improvement. However, when it warms back up that ProXS will run between those two numbers, just fair warning.
