What is your personal best rod and reel catch? Mine is this 54 lb yellow cat I caught in Clear Creek below Stone Ranch in Brown County. I was using a live perch. It was the only bite I got all day and it happened while my Dad, Brother, Uncle, and Cousins were loading up to leave. I had a brand new Red Rhino combo and the fish destroyed it. We had caught them there many times in the past just not this big. I want to say summer 1996. 54 lb Yellow Cat.jpg
And for Bass this 10.22 lb, 25" girth, 25.1/4" length large mouth I caught on April 24th 2008 on Lake Georgetown on a C rig Big Bite Crawdad in 20+- feet of water.

Nothing like that, but picked up this salmon on the Columbia River in WA. Gonna ballpark it in the 10-15# range. Lot of fun catching that.

I've caught bigger LMBs, but this LA bass I got weighed on a official scale at 10.32 lbs:

Striper over 20 pounds on Inks Lake

Going by the title of the post, my personal best would be a 4 way with 3 chicks in college.

If you're referring to angling, my personal best largemouth bass on rod and reel is 23# in the 8# range at Houston County Reservoir and Lake Travis. I've caught a 42" carp on Lake Austin and a 43" catfish on Lake Travis. Both catches maxed out my 50# scale.

    12.5 lbs. LA, April 2014.

Most of the really big fish I have caught have never gone on a scale. My best would be somewhere around 300lbs, Goliath Grouper last year. 250lb Mono with a 1000lb steel leader. They still break sometimes if they get you into the wreck. Their strength is unfathomable. I want to catch a giant shark. Might try next year in Florida.

519lb Mako. After it shredded a red snapper, and smoked a backup rig with a butterflyed black fin, it finally ate and stayed hooked for a few hours on a Jack Cravelle, attached to Penn Senator 16/0. It was about the most painful battle you can imagine. The reel holds over 1,000yds of 130lb braid, and is only a 1.6:1 ratio!

How'd the shark taste? Or did you just kill it for sport?

It was actually very good. I sold about 100lbs of it to a gentleman that owns a fish market down there, and gave some to the boat crew, but kept a ton for myself and friends,

Mako is one of very few sharks that have a rudimentary bladder system (most sharks do not have a bladder and urinate through their muscle/skin) and therefore do not have the horrible taste many sharks do. Marinated the steaks in buttermilk for about 20-30 minutes before grilling to help breakdown protein bonds, and would cover with a shrimp and veggie creole cream sauce.

Nice catch! Interesting facts about sharks as well. Pretty cool that you were able to spread the meat around and also make some money on it. Well done.

That's badass, almost as badass as Grant with long hair. Cool Story Bro time, sure why not.... I was at this high end restaurant a couple years back and had a Mako steak, it was amazing. That's all I got.

I can't compete with big bass, so I'm going to be the first to drop a shell cracker in here.
