The word is out, so I won't keep it a secret any longer.....Lake Travis is getting healthy fast. I have been so sick of getting my butt kicked on Lake Austin, it was such a treat to fish Lake Travis yesterday. Having water in Travis, and being able to travel up and down that beautiful lake just makes me smile ear to ear.

Booker and I caught fish from Commanders to Pace Bend, and everywhere in between. We would stop, pull up to spot, and just start catching fish (usually on the first couple of casts). We caught a lot of Largemouth bass, like a whole lot. How many? I don't know, I lost count, but there are a ton of LMBs on the chew. At one point I got a bite on five casts in a row in front of one rock on a bluff wall. It was like this all over, it never took long to find a bite. Once you found them on a stretch of bank you could hang around that area and catch a bunch more.

Most of the fish were caught on soft plastics t-rigged, but I caught 6 fish first thing in the morning on top water.

As for the guads, we only caught 7 guads, but they were all very nice ones. I'm certain that we would of had the winning bag (or darn close) at Guadapalooza with our 5 biggest guads from yesterday. Ok enough foreplay, here are your tasty guad pics.....

I'll post these over on the Shimano give away thread as well, but I caught mine (3 total only 2 pictured) on a Zodias/Aldebaran combo. Booker caught his guads (4 total only 3 pictured) on his Crucial/Core combo. Booker loves that Crucial Core set up, I'm not sure if he ever fishes with another rod.

OK I started it off with this guad

Aldebaran+Zodias+Guad=so sexy it hurts my eyes.

Then Booker smoked four in a row off one bluff, here were the three biggest. Keep in mind he is not long arming these fish, these were all really nice guads...

At that point we had a 5 guad limit, then I culled one of his smaller ones with this one

So those were our best five guads from yesterday, pretty solid. I caught one more nice one later on a different bluff, not sure if it would of culled or not. Which reminds me, bring a cull beam to gpaz, you will need it.

Guadapalooza is going to be sick, get ready to catch a ton of fish.

I think we are going to see some good guad bags this year.

Great report and nice pics. Going out Friday to "practice."

Pardon my ignorance since this will be my first Guadapalooza. Do you weigh the best 5 fish per team or weigh 10 if you are lucky enough to get a two man limit?
No livewell on my boat so I will be bringing them in on ice.

Also wondered what area of Arkansas bend most people set up camp and hold the fish fry. Headed out there to set up camp early Friday and probably leave the boat tied up on shore. Also, A little birdie told me the pay station may be closed that weekend so hope it holds true.

Meant to write a more expansive post then TFTR. Fishing looks and sounds great. Can't wait to get out there. Booker needs to go back to long arming those things. And holding his pole like he means business.

7 pounds will win GPaz every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

7 pounds means you are bringing in five guads that average 1.4 pounds, which is pretty big for a guad.

Unless someone has the guad limit of a lifetime, I think high five to low six range wins it and you have a ridiculous amount of bags in the 4.5-5.5 range.

Best 5 for the tourney, but keep your two man limit of 10 for the fish fry.

And nice job, Cheeseburger boys. I might have to sneak out to Travis when I am back in a few weeks.

The bag I had last Tuesday would have been a contender. I might head out there again this Tuesday and actually put together a limit and weigh it to see what an average bag is going for these days.

Yeah, you should really change your family's holiday schedule to accommodate my visits. Tell Alice to quit being selfish.
